Solar question re. charge controller leads

My "05 SMB previously had solar that was removed when the PO had to replace the PH top. I'm in the process of adding a panel and replacing the old Specialty Concepts solar charge controller with a new Blue Sea MPPT controller.

Today I dropped the 4D battery to attach the charge controller temperature sensor and the Victron battery monitor wire. I was expecting to see the wires from the battery side of the charge controller attached to the house battery terminals, but no, it was just the big battery cables attached. So now I'm wondering where those two #10 battery wires from the charge controller really go, they just disappear into the wall and I haven't been able to find where they daylight. If they don't attach to the battery terminals, where in the electrical system do they attach in order to charge the house battery?

On a separate note, I was glad I dropped the battery because I found it was not sealed into the tray, it had nothing but gravity to hold it in place, and the 4 bolts that hold the tray in place had no washers or lock nuts. All fixed!

Re: Solar question re. charge controller leads

Do the #10 wires have battery voltage on them at the controller end? They could be connected to your battery separator and chassis ground, or your inverter, etc. since all of the house side + are all connected together.

Re: Solar question re. charge controller leads

Boywonder: Yes, they have battery voltage. We have no inverter, so it must be the separator. Still, it seems like quite a circuitous route.

Connecting to the house battery side of the separator is the same as connecting to the battery, since the +ve terminals are connected together with big fat cables....makes no difference, and may make the wiring simpler.
