Have you seen these:

Looks interesting and does not eliminate the mirror (you still get a mirror when they are off) I might try somthing like it when I do mine.

Re: [Split] On Backup Cameras and Mirrors

Ah but I love my rearview mirror. Even if I can only see a square inch, or likely the hood of the Jeep only, glancing at it is a comfort. When I'm in a box truck that doesn't have one it is disconcerting, and I think it would be more so (for me) to have an image in there, or instead of a rearview. I know many people don't even bother to open their rear windows on the vans, but for me it's easier.

That said I bought the RearviewSafety 3 camera system. It's really a 2 camera + AV + extra channel system, which I'm a little disappointed by. It's a somewhat dysfunctional system because of the laws designed to keep idiots from watching The Transporter while driving. The other problem is all 3 cables are 66' which is extreme to say the least.

But you know, I'm planning to write up the whole thing when it's done... currently I've got a camera installed in the front, one inside and the third one is going where the 3rd brakelight is in the PH and wire through the Ford 3rd brakelight... in the meantime I need to find a way to shorten the cables (Radioshack is pathetic these days) and get a 3rd brakelight replacement LED bar.

It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't 8" of snow on my van!

BW,

You might check "Buji" posts. He has a real fancy camera set up.
