Okay no personal experience here but there's several manufactures that make compact subs that come with amplifiers. Some of them come in pretty small packages.
I agree with Jeff that there are some good subs with integrated amplifiers out there. If I didn't already have the nice a/d/s/ subwoofer and amplifier I pulled out of a previous vehicle, I would have gone the route of one of these other packages.
Not sure the manufacture of the sub that came stock in my FX, but I think it is similar to the Infinity Basslink and fits inside the spare tire rim in the back of the car. I have always been impressed with how it sounds especially for its size.
... and I'm not telling what else I have in my van Lowracer.
Not to piss anyone off...here is how I mounted my sub, since I go to Mexico alot.

Does anyone really read this stuff other than surfgeek?
The smaller one might fit in behind the microwave or return air for the Starcool...
thanks!

LMAO at Dave. Can i have a pic of your SMB so i make sure to stay clear?
with regards to the sub in the SMB...i love music. and i love music while driving. the SMB is one loud mofo and when the stereo sucks the ear fatigue is awful after a long day of driving. having a sub in the car would help the sound and does not necessarily equate to being an arse at a campsite.
music lovers can love camping too.
i use a fuggin ipod when i'm at a campsite as i am a firm believer in hearing the babbling brook and the wind in the trees.
this all said, has anyone thought of adding woofers to the door panels?
