Hold the switch "on" while starting the engine if the starting battery(s) voltage is too low.

I have one of these as well in mine. In the picture is the switch on or off or in other words - is up or down on?

PR Mulligan
The toggle switch is spring loaded. You close the circuit by pressing the switch downward. The spring keeps you from accidentally leaving the two battery circuits connected together and possibly draining all batteries. So you hold the switch down with your left hand while cranking the ignition with your right hand. So simple. I wish I had it in my rig instead of the malfunctioning battery separator.

Re: What is this switch for?

Opportunity to upgrade!

The BlueSea comes with a switch that has ON AUTO OFF positions. I installed it under the couch next to the separator- if I need to Jump myself getting under the couch is hardly an inconvenience.

SMB replaced that switch with a wire that closes the Separator whenever your key is in start, therefore the van automatically jumps the batteries every time you turn the key to start. You can find this wire on the SurePower- mine was green, and there is a ground with it. Remove and apply 12v to the terminal to close the separator.

When my SurePower failed it was permanently stuck closed.

Sorry if I'm repeating too much, I know I've posted about this before.
