Which alarm?

I made a search but didn't find any thread dedicated to that. Sorry if I missed it.

I'm thinking about installing an alarm in VivaLaVida but I wonder what system to choose.

Do you have guys alarm in your rig? Which typ and function (volumetric protection or not, fuel or ingnition cutting, etc.) do you have?

Already thanks for your return.

Claude-Alain

Re: Which alarm?

I have the Ravelco http://www.ravelco.com/ and use it religiously. I think there have been a few threads about this and other methods and many of the pro's and con's between them. I think this approach was a bit under $500 installed.

Re: Which alarm?

Might also depend on what features you want Claude. My work truck can be activated from a fairly far distance compared to my van. And my pickup has a key fob that sounds off if the alarm goes off. Kind of nice and it uses AAA batteries so no need to find a weird sized battery. Some of the newer ones recharge. Being able to bypass the alarm is something I've considered. Middle of BFE is not a place for an alarm to fail leaving you stranded. Mine is a very basic unit. Even with the alarm going off, somebody still went through my van. Luckily there was nothing worth grabbing but I wasn't happy about the broken window. The newer alarms are more high tech but I know nothing about them other than what I've read.

Re: Which alarm?

Thanks to both of you. Not sure yet of which features I want, that's also why I made that thread.

Volumetric protection of the interior makes the alarm running when a window is broken but what about an open roof vent for example?
It's not very important for me to be able to make it on/off from far away since when I'm not in VivaLaVida, I'm usually exploring to for away from it to come to it quick if something happens...

Anyway, thanks for the links ! ;-)

Re: Which alarm?

Somebody on this site installs alarms IIRC. Maybe they'll chime in.

Re: Which alarm?

I had a Clifford put in several years ago with glass breakage sensors and remote start, which I love, in winter I make sure to put the heater on defrost the eve before so it starts the process. Did not get the 2 way remote which alerts you if the alarm is triggered, maybe a nice feature if you live in an urban area or visiting one.

Hey Rick, can you give us the model number of your Clifford alarm, or PM it to me? I am shopping too and would really like to go with a more reputable brand than what I'm finding online so far.

Thanks
Eric

Re: Which alarm?

Sorry for the delay Eric, not sure of the model but it's since been replaced with an upgraded version at this point anyway.

Re: Which alarm?

Thanks Rick, no worries. I'm thinking about an Autopage anyway but still looking, not in a hurry.
