Wiring, Alternator, Battery Issue

We have a 1990 Ford e250 sportsmobile. We were driving and all of a sudden everything quit working. The heater fan had been a bit slow right before the engine quit.
The battery is not charging.
Mechanic and previous owner thinks its a wiring issue.

Any common wiring/electrical problems you can point us towards to take a look at?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the alternator went south....can you get it started with a jump? If u can, monitor battery voltage and see what voltage you are getting. If the engine is running anf you are still about 12.0-12.5 volts, need a new alternator. I'd also check the wiring.

That's what we figured. The van's at 84000 miles. We read that's around the time they go.
Do you k kw of a way that we can test the alternator to make sure its that's and not the wiring.

If you can get a voltmeter and get the van started, measure the voltage at the batteries before starting the van and then measure while its running. When running the measured voltage at the battery should range from 13.8V-14.5V. When the engine isn't running, voltage should be 12.3-12.6V. If you can replicate this, the problem isnt your alternator. If you cannot replicate these voltages, and the voltage remains constant when the engine is running or is not running OR the voltage starts to drop while running, its your alternator.
