I am looking to upgrade my inverter/charger. I am looking at the xantrex 2.0 and 3.0. For those who have the 2.0, do you have the hard wired? Hard wired with or without GFCI? What about the 3.0 and the options? What is the other option off hard wired?
I have a Pro Sine 3.0 in a custom box hooked up to two Optimas that I pull in and out as needed. 110 plug mounted on the side of the box with the digital controller. Works great!!

and I bought the 2000 watt because I really will never need 3000w for my van. YMMV. It's hard mounted and hard wired under the EB-50 seat on the passenger side with the remote mounted under the sink. There is no need to have a GFI input source, the inverter has self protection, but I do have GFI protection on some of the outlets if that's what you're asking. I was told if you mount the inverter put it in a spot where it will stay as cool as possible with reasonable air flow. Even though it has a fan, SMB said it can trip out if the air flow is blocked. But I've yet to have it trip even when the vans inside temp is almost 120, so it handles heat fairly well.

If you look in your picture their is a set of plugs. I believe that is the GFCI option. I dont believe I need that. I guess they are all Hard wired. I am hoping that I can undo the old one and reconnect the prosine. Your saying 3.0 is overkill.
If all your load you plan to run will never reach over 2Kw your paying more per watt for a larger unit. You also need to look at what each pulls on standby. Check the specs and see what the operating amperage is. I think my 2000 uses about 3 amps just to operate with no load. While driving it's no big deal to run something like a laptop that pulls less than an amp while the inverter itself uses 3 just to run, but at camp it's another story. Now if the 3000 pulls about the same, it's a wash and you're just paying a higher price for a more capable inverter. Just kind of depends what you plan to run with the thing. The biggest load I have to run is the microwave. Even a 1500 will run most smaller microwaves. Maybe your wife has a 2500 watt hair dryer she wants to use?

Idle loss is why I have two inverters installed. A 1000w and 100w. When dry camped I use only the one that is really needed.
3000 watts? How many batteries. At 12 volts you are draining about 300 amps out of the house battery bank. Can't believe more than 15-30 minutes of operation at full power. I have two batteries wired to my 1000w inverter. I would think for 2000w you "ideally" would need 3+ and for 3000w 4+ or a class 'A' motor home battery bay.
For good battery life the rule of thumb is no more than 50% discharge.
A little hijack here, but kinda on the subject. Anyone know of a small 300-500 watt pure sine wave inverter? The ones I've found on the Internet have very poor ratings. I'm using a little 150 watt cig lite plug in and it does all I need, but I'd like to do a hard wire and heat up all my outlets. Thots???
