110V hot water heater - looking for feedback.

Hey all - specing SMB - my threads are all over the place now - sorry about that.

Those who have or know about 110V hot water heater - do you like it?
Does it work fast?
Does it drain batts a lot or ...?
Is it worth it or would flat plate be better?

Don't worry about tradeoffs - just want comment on is 110V really good or ... ?
thx

Our flat plate works perfectly.

Mine takes about 20 min to heat and only
works with shore power. I'm removing it because it takes up way too much room and I can heat water in the micro or on the stove if needed.

Ours gets water quite hot in about 10 minutes and works with either shore power or the on-board Onan. Much easier that using a pot on the burner when you need to wash dishes or want a hot shower. Wouldn't change it.

Our van has one. I would not order it again-- I'd rather have the space. As Langton says, it's easy enough to heat up water on the stove.

Think about a separate Coleman or Zodi water heater. Posts here on the forum about them and you have the option of not carrying them if they won't be needed on a paticular trip. Space is valuable and weight is bad stuff to carry around. Just my 2 cents.

I have found that we never use ours either and it takes up a ton of space and sucks the life out of your batteries. I use the outdoor shower in the summer and dont really need the water heater. Its to cold outside to use in the winter anyway. I found a small electric water boiling pot at a kitchen outlet store that works great and boils enough water for coffee or pasta in a few minutes.

Re: 110V hot water heater - looking for feedback.

Well ...... based on this and other info ...... I think 110V is out. It's either going to be a flat plate or propane. I didn't mention I have propane because I wanted input only on 110V or flat plate. I will have propane because I'm going with propane furnace but I've received enough negative comments on propane water heater to make me doubt it.

I've heard nada about the flate plate except good things. I will have V10 gas so it's not that loud compared to diesel to fire up engine for a few mins to heat water. This would only make sense to take shower .... otherwise it's ambient temp water when using sink.

what you think?

What negatives have you heard about the propane H20 heater? We have a the propane H20 heater and we love it. It only takes about 10 min to heat up. The water stays as warm, or hot, as we want when taking showers, washing dishes, etc. Also you get an extra 5 gals of water (I think) due to the H20 heater tank.

The only negative is the space.

Re: 110V hot water heater - looking for feedback.

I'm with Surfgeek- the propane hot water heater does not take long to heat up, gives an extra 6 gals water storage, and usually stays hot overnight (unless it is below about 40 outside). We love it. We use it for dishes and some outdoor showers (we don't have an indoor shower setup). Highly recomended.

One thing I wish we'd gotten as well was (offered then, maybe not now) the "Motorade" hot water heater. It runs a line from your engine coolant/water, into a heat exchanger- it may be the same as the "flat plate" water heater.
