Re: Awning brackets for voyager top
I have the voyager top. I'll measure the gutter space tomorrow and report back.
As for bolting directly to the top: The fiberglass thickness and strength should be the same as a crusier, so if it's working for Bill it should work for you. Your biggest concern will be to protect the gelcoat from cracking and leaking.
As a carpenter, former mechanic and automotive hobbist, I would recommend using 1/4" or 3/8" x 3" x 3" plywood washers inside the top. (You coud also use metal washers if excessive thickness is a concern. I prefer the plywood as it is a little more forgiving and will help absorb any deflection) Also use a couple layers of bituthane tape or 1/8" thick bed of bituthane caulking between the plywood washer and the inside of the top. this will accomodate for the semi-rough interior surface and also help waterproof the bolt penetration. A piece of bituthane tape should also be used between the awning mounting bracket and the exterior surface of the top. Creates a nice waterproof sandwich. - that's how I would do it anyway.
Good luck!
