Well I did it.
Today I sent in my deposit for a new SMB.
Below is the order I have placed with SMB Fresno.
Van is scheduled to arrive from Ford on Dec. 15.
Thanks everyone for helping to make this process as fun and educational as it was. I’m sure some things will change in the upcoming weeks, but not very much.

Now the real waiting begins.

It may be the textured penthouse top like Jeffreys.

The Raptor paint is the textured paint on top of the penthouse.

The future A/C system. After talking to John K of SMB we concluded that we sure didn’t need/want the full Starcool system. (Don’t plan on being hooked up at RV parks which is also the reasoning behind deleting the 110v system). Having the 12v rear A/C would be a nice feature but we thought it was a hefty price to pay for something we may or may not use. (Rather have lockers) Retrofitting the 12v Starcool at a later time is also not a very cost effective solution. So, a company called Danford (located in Texas) makes 12v A/C units. There is a small inside unit that fits in the cabinetry similar to the Starcool. The casework will be built to accommodate it and the duct outlets. The condenser is a small separate unit that fits under the floor where the extreme air compressor would go. (I’m getting the combination Warn winch / air compressor so this space is freed up.) John was quite candid with me in saying that SMB Texas installs more A/C units than Fresno does, and I would probably be better off having Texas do the installation (when and if I need it) rather than Fresno. So I thought I would try it without the A/C for a year.

You have a link on the Danford? I found Starcool could not be effectively refit into my previously owned van and I've been looking for a different option.

Wow. If you can get through the 1980s website and download their huge catalog you can put just about anything together. On page 105 there is a 50-2320 digital thermostat that looks like it would be a must have, otherwise there are 1000 options. I can't wait to see someones SMB add on solution for A/C

Congrats Charlie56! Strangely, I found ordering the beast to be one of the most fun parts of having an SMB. But we got a vanilla standard EB50 with little customization, so we never had many problems with extra options.

And I must admit, the advice from other SMB owners was invaluable in designing our machine.

I too was also planning to delete the 110/120 volts, AC system and thus find comfort in not being alone.

I have a question: what water heater model are you getting? wil this be heated via heat exchanger only via engine coolant?

also, did you have to add another water pump? or opted for a larger water pump to feed the flat plate? what was the cost? depending upon your length of run, you may want to look into this if existing 'water pump' capacity is sufficient.

I am still in process of spec. building my unit. I am planning to get a Indelmarine/isotemp marine hot water heat with heat exchanger, fed via engine coolant and an espar hydronic with a bypass for when the engine is not running.

The espar hydronic will serve multiple task, heat hot water heater, heat engine for cold starts, and heat cabin (thus deleting need for the Espar Airtronic).
