New SMBers to be layout and fridge questions

Hi all, thank you in advance for your suggestions.

One of us is disabled and spends about 20 hours a day lying down and can only sit/ drive at a 135 degree angle.

We have ordered a gas EB with Quigley 4x4 and are trying to finalize our interior. Initially we assumed that we would go 50 (possibly 51) without the fridge behind the seat for lean back but we really want a 3 way propane fridge.

The reason for this is that we have to park on the street in an area where the Friday/ Saturday night party crowd are bound to get onto the roof and damage the solar panels. Being in the van for 20 hours a day, I think a noisy fridge would be very annoying. We also don't want to run the engine every day, hence the quieter propane fridge decision. However a propane fridge doesn't seem to fit in a 50 as the flame is too close to the gas tank filler (given the fact that we need 135 degree lean back on the driver's seat and so can't have any cabinets close to the back of the chair).

Question 1: Has anyone solved the propane fridge in a 50 problem? Has anyone ever put a propane fridge in the back of a 51?

So we have started looking at walk through plans and are beginning to like the idea of an EB45 as with the gaucho out we think we can lean the seat back to 135 degrees. Although we've been in about 6 50s, we've never been in a walk through plan.

Question 2:
Can anyone with a 45 tell us if with the gaucho in bed mode and the driver's seat as far away from the steering wheel as it goes, is it possible to recline the seat to 135 degrees?

Question 3:
Is there anyone in the southern california area who has a walk through plan similar to the 45 who would let us have a look at it? We are in San Diego.

Thank you for your help

Annie

Annie - we also live in San Diego (Ocean Beach). We have a walk through plan with the gaucho on the driver side and the fridge in the rear, passenger side. Our's is a custom layout with the poptop, but it does look very similar to the EB 45 plan. You are more than welcome to come look at it, just send me a PM. Unfortunately I can't answer your other questions.

Re: New SMBers to be layout and fridge questions

Very unique issue to deal with but luckily SMB is used to custom touches...Which shop is building yours? If you are in San Diego the Fresno place should be able to get you in to look at a couple of different layouts.

We just finished our project and it is a 71 with some custom touches but I really like a walk through setup now that I have spent a few days with it.

So I take it you are full timing in the rig (spending 20hrs a day laying down) but you street park it also?

Be aware that the propane fridges don't like offroading very much. There are very effecient offroad fridges avalible other than the norcold...ARB, Engel and the National Luna that I used..as top opening fridges you can play around with them a bit either with the top at counter height or on a slider under a cabinet.

Are there any issues with a seatbelt when driving at that severe an angle?

Disabled Explorers is a non-profit that works with folks who have physical mobility issues and want to camp/4wd/explore remote areas. I am very interested in your solutions to be able to pass them on to other folks.

Re: New SMBers to be layout and fridge questions

I'm grateful to those who nicely "force" SMB to look into other alternatives. Not only does it help SMB, it can help us all. I've been and continue to be a beta tester. Sometimes it propels the company to look at better solutions. I'm willing to take the risk. Well most of the time
