Penthouse "Rumble"

Does everyone's PH top rumble on bumpy roads? You know, like the freeway...

I'm wondering if it is just a matter of cranking down the latches more? Seems like that may put too much stress on the fiberglass.

Re: Penthouse

My understanding is you want the latches to snap, but not deflect the metal bases more than a few mm if that. The J hooks should be snug when closed. Of course my top has all kinds of it's own problems, but I don't believe it should be making noise on bumpy roads.

Re: Penthouse "Rumble"

Thanks Jage. Yea, I can't believe that everyone's PH top is making this noise and no one is talking about it.

OBTW, the paint, bed, and interior finish of the PH top are all different at SMB North than SMB West. Sadly, I prefer the latter...

Re: Penthouse

I had a rumble/rattle when off road and bumpy pavement. It ended up being the long springs on the forward part of the PH on either side. The remedy was a foam pad on either side and then lower the PH, leaving them in.

Re: Penthouse "Rumble"

Long springs? Is that manual top only ( I have electric)? I haven't noticed any springs.

Re: Penthouse

The electric top has springs also. They are located along the edges of the penthouse bed, look at the base of the metal tubes that raise the top. There will be a fabric flap that covers the springs that run in a track along the edges of the penthouse. Some foam or rubber should quiet the rattle, I have been meaning to work on mine.
