Propane Tank Location and questions

Can someone show me where SMB mounts the propane tank on an RB50? Photos of the tank and mount would be appreciated.

Also general questions:
What size tank? Is there any sort of skid plate/protection? Is there a door cut into the sheet metal to access the tank or is it just reached from underneath.

thanks,

steve

Re: Propane Tank Location and questions

Geeze Steve, what are you doing on here so early on Christmas morning? Are you addicted to this forum or what? When the sun comes up I'll take some pictures of my propane tank and send them to you.

Merry Christmas!

Mac

Re: Propane Tank Location and questions

LOL Mac. Merry Christmas to you!

The guests all left from dinner, so of course I had to jump on the forum. Work has been crazy so finally I have a couple days to dream up my next modification.

Pictures would be great--thanks! And if anyone can answer the other questions, I would appreciate it.

Re: Propane Tank Location and questions

Here you go:

Outside door access to propane tank. Just behind driver's side door
Latch just barely opens for access to tank knobs
Tank is about 18-24" long. Probably 4-5 gallons
Front bracket for tank runs entire length of tank and connects to side frame of van
This bracket attaches to each end of tank and fastens to the top frame of van
This is the bottom view of the front bracket for tank.

There is no skid plate for the propane tank on my van. The propane tank sits about six inches above the bottom frame of the van.

I think that answers all of your questions. If you need additional pictures or want me to look at anything else, just let me know.

Good luck on your next project. Have a wonderful New Year!

Mac

P.S.: I will be in the LA area from January 11-14 getting my van lifted at Action Van. Maybe we could link up somewhere to camp on the night of the 14th after I pick up my van.

Re: Propane Tank Location and questions

Hey Mac,
Many thanks for doing this. That is a big help. I really appreciate it.

As for camping, it would be great to see you again. Hit me up with a PM closer to the date, as I don't even know what I am doing tomorrow let alone 3 weeks from now.

Re: Propane Tank Location and questions

I know when I built my van SMB offered 2 sizes of tanks but the smaller tank might not work as well in cold weather but I would ask those who actually have a system.

You got some 'splaining to do Lucy!

Looking to add propane powered heat?

Now we just need to find an Ethel for you, so you won't be left to your schemes all by yourself.

Re: Propane Tank Location and questions

Steve ,
I have the larger Propane tank on the EB-50 and as I recall they are mounted in the same location as the E-50 . Let me know and I will take photographs for you or arrange a time to meet up if you need a hands on show and tell .
