Re: SMB West Factory Visits
Congrats on your new great looking SMB. I see a lot of windows, wonder what kind of interior is in there?

Re: SMB West Factory Visits
Heading up to SMBW June 19 to get some work done to the birthday van. Shes turning 10 so we decided to get the top coated, new Aluminess rack, new solar panel side lights front light bar and 4 new fox shocks.

About time someone posted to this sticky. We stopped by SMB West a couple weeks ago. They had started on revision #2 of the new Classic and had also coated revision #1 completely with Rhino Liner or something similar. They plan to offer it in several popular colors. Looks pretty good, but I still think I like paint better. They also had a 4x4 Sprinter ready to deliver. Here is a picture of the classic, the Sprinter, and also a van I saw that had solar panels mounted on the side. Not sure if they were to be placed on the ground or swung into position.
Now that I look at the pic, I see it's under the awning, so they must place them on the ground.

Does anyone have any experience with the long term looks of Rhino Liner? Also, how hard is it to clean after mudding or dusting it up? What about patching a scratched area? Can it be repaired to match the original finish?

I haven't climbed up to clean the top but generally all I've needed to do is spray it off. Sometimes on the sides I have to use a car wash brush on it to bring it back to its original luster. I've always wondered if rust would stain it. So far I haven't seen that and if it showed up, white seems like it would be the most problematic. Had SMBW spray it back in 08-09. Sure beats waxing.

Is there a different gasket system on the roof of the Classic? There doesn't appear to be one on the raised roof in that pic, but there is something on the body behind the awning.
Cheers,
Brent

I think they told us they wouldn't need the rubber gasket at all on the new Classic. Something about the PH top fitting into a groove in the roof of the van body.

Just came back from SMB West to have a roof rack and a couple of other items installed, the last of the major changes to our van. I'm posting to attest to the quality of Sportsmobile's workmanship and their service.
Since picking it up after conversion in June we also found a few minor things to followup on, and they took care of them without question.
In short, the production crew did an outstanding job and the service department was great.
Giving credit where it's due. The total package is perfect.

My 2016 Sprinter 4x4 build is just starting. Time & distance mean I will only be able to get down to SMBW a couple times. If anyone is there, I'd appreciate a couple pics of the build progress. PM me if you'll be making a visit, and I'd like to extend the offer to anyone else when I do make it down to the factory. And if there's a better thread to put this in...please point me in the right direction. TIA
