Thanks for reaching out (and thanks for letting me know about the PM - I wouldn't have thought to look for it if you hadn't mentioned it.)

Very interesting about the bugs and dust intrusion. Good to know.

Relative to the water heater cutout in the side of the van: I saw on one of these forums someone did this on a Ford Transit van which seemed especially messy because of the curved side panel of the van.

I, too, would be interested in hearing other peoples experiences with these issues.

Thanks.

I had SMB use a water heater that was heated with 110 volts (700 watts) and it is heated from the engine. No outside holes. It also has a mixing valve to regulate the water temp (the engine makes the water very hot).

So when I am traveling I have hot water from the engine, when parked and plugged in I have hot water from the external power. When sitting still and not plugged in I have hot water for a while. Works for me.

That Isotemp Slim Square water heater looks interesting. In the right situation it could save a lot of space in a crowded van. The standard SMB round water heater in ours results in lots of wasted space around the tank.

I agree. Wish I had that one rather than the big round one.

When you "big round one", are you referring to the standard Atwood or Suburban water heaters?

Atwood and Suburban are both big but I was referring to the big round Isotemp on the right side of the same picture as the square one.
