Transformer Conversion with Pop-Up?

Does anybody have pics of their Transformer conversion...looking to do a minimal conversion...

such as add a transformer gallery , pop-up and swivel captain's chairs on a 12 passenger...not very keen on having a bathroom in a tiny van

Also how well insulated is the pop-up....does it get really cold when the temp dips to 40's at night?

Thanks
Chantal

Check out BroncoHauler's:

It's super cool - one of my favorite rigs here.

The Penthouse top is not really insulated. Several forum users have insulated their tops, mostly with a product called 'Reflectix' from Home Depot or similar stores.

Others, myself included, camp in cold temps(20's and below) with the use of a down comforter. Other options for dealing with the cold have been discussed on this site. Try the search feature and look for 'cold weather', 'cold camping', 'top insulation' or similar.

Figure it's about like sleeping in a good tent without as much of the condesation some get. Many owners opt for internal heat. Actually I like it to be cold and rely on a good bag or similar to what Mike does. I have slept up top in 8* weather with my Espar heater running about 3/4 and didn't use any added insulation except in the vans lower windows which I always use. I'm sure reflectix around the top would have made a big difference. Sleeping below is always warmer even with the top up; you can feel the cold on the canvas walls of the PH when it's below 30.

Hope this helps

Re: Transformer Conversion with Pop-Up?

I find the pop top to be fairly warm. Since the material is much thicker than most any tent I've slept in.

And everything is well sealed. A nice thick sleeping bag and some thermals and you're set. Of course, I don't know what temps you plan to be in. But I'd say my experience is better than a standard tent.
