I'm with you unless it adds more to the cost of a new SMB. It would be nice if they added that as an option though. I think SMB needs to hire a new web designer.

I would like the PH bed to have more clearance to the roof so I could leave bedding in place when traveling.

At least, longer cables that hold the PH bed up so I could leave bedding in place when putting the bed up while staying in the same campsite.

Maybe some cabinets made out of something lighter and stronger than the pressboard that is currently used. Lighter weight flooring also. Maybe light enough to get a 4wd van under the Max GVWR.

in these days of high gas prices it would be good if sportsmobile
offered lighter components so that you could use a weaker
engine with better gas mileage possibilities.

an example would be chevy 1500 with six cylinder 4.3 liter.


sportmobiles current compnents are strong but HEAVY, requiring
stronger engines

Gerrym51: Sportsmobile in IND did put a PH on my Chevy 4.3L 1500, but that's all I had done with it. So that is a posibility if you want a DIY camper that doubles as an everyday van. I average 17.5 in everyday driving.

A contortion free one-handed way of latching the rear penthouse lever with the EB-50 layout. For those without the rear bench seat crosswise, you need to lean back over the top of the backrest hoping that the lever isn't hung up on the sleepsack that is on top of the bed. Another perk of the center isle.

Of course a little user coordination wouldn't hurt either

A suggestion....get the rear latch/nut to the right setting (not too tight and not too loose) and then add Lock-tight to the threads. While the front latches don't seem to get unscrewed, the rear one does and eventually unscrews...

Better water heater

I'd like see SMB work towards getting approval on Isotemp water heaters. I've been using one for five years and it's one of the best features on my van. Isotemps are used in some of the best yachts in the world. They're safe, reliable, well-insulated, easy to mount, and, because they run off a coil in the van's cooling system, don't require either propane or electricity. Unlike the heat plate exchanger, I can park my van in the evening and have HOT water well into the next day. The Isotemps are built of topnotch materials and are reasonably priced (I think I paid $600 for mine). The hang-up is they are not approved by RVIA so SMB can't install. However, if they're safe enough for marine use they're plenty safe enough for RV's.
