Re: Aluminess box

I have a B.A.B. (Big Ass Box)

Was custom made to haul my Yamaha 2400
I dont carry it a lot, but LOVE the xtra space

Volcano stove
firewood
propane greenies
shore power cord
couple of the 2.5 gal water jugs
and room to spare

when empty i just put a couple of rocks in it
because i like the noise

Re: Aluminess box

Had the little one- replaced it with the big one. Doesn't spoil the view out the back, and has LOTS more room. Wouldn't go back. If anyone would like the small one, I'll sell it reasonably.

I'm quite sure Dave from Aluminess can rig something up, like a fold out table located behind the galley door for example. Folds out when the door is open.

Re: Aluminess box

You're correct; I miss the fold down door. Perhaps I'll make a table that attaches to the inside bottom of the door with a piano hinge which will fold down when I need it... Good idea!
Bill
(And yes, Billwilson, I'm Much happier with the big one, and so is my wife!!!)

Re: Aluminess box

Put some thought into it before you order. If you plan to carry fuel, be aware that many of the fuel cans have slightly different dimensions. I know a couple of members who didn’t get what they thought they needed. Another thing I don’t like about mine is wood can fall against the latch system and jam the latch closed. I keep a plate of Lexan so nothing can fall against the lock. I also had a bottom plate installed so the floor is flush with the door opening.

Re: Aluminess box

We added a shelf. On the top shelf, I placed a small bungee net so things won't fall off and land on the bottom. On the bottom and Regarding fuel cans and H2O cans, we could fit 2 Scepter water container and 2 Gas Can (from Expedition Exchange) with a little room to spare.

By placing a folding table with piano hinges, like Bill's (Skywagon) idea, would actually fill in the void on the door created by the lip that makes the box water tight. Once we order our rear bumper, I would go exactly like what we had and add the folding table. I would mount the fold out table like how SMB mounted their recovery gear on the door from their search and rescue van.

Re: Aluminess box

We started out with the recommended smaller box and very quickly realized that the capacity
was inadequate for our needs and exchanged for the deluxe with rack and optional removable and adjustable shelf ! All that Dave and Surfgeek pointed out are valid consideration's .
