Aluminess / Honda 3000 Suggestions
I'm ready to add some Aluminess boxes to my Sportsmobile. I am also ready to purchase a generator. I understand the Honda 2000 isn't enough to run the AC, which is really the only reason for the generator, and the Honda 3000 will not fit into the Aluminess boxes. Looking for your suggestions.

The 2000 runs my A/C just fine, with amps to spare. It's a 15K BTU unit I put in the rear window. If you really need 3000W's, the gen could go on top of an Aluminess galley box, or on a hitch carrier, but I'd be concerned about theft. It might also be carried inside and removed when you get to camp. Currently, I'm trying to figure out how to be able to run mine without removing it from the box, which will require extending the exhaust to the outside and providing ventilation for cooling and combustion air.

Once you learn how heavy a Honda 3000 generator is you won't want to put it on anything, in anything or really anywhere. Those suckers are super heavy. Way too much for an Aluminess bumper. I would figure out what AC will run on a Honda 2000, the choice of professional awesome people everywhere.

Two Honda 2000i units ( if you get the one that allows) can be connected together to provide 3200 watts. Just in case that is a solution that works.

Shipping weight seems to be just under 150lbs, so a hitch carrier should work ok. I've got more than that in my Aluminess box, but I doubt the 3000 would fit. Still, that's a really heavy generator, and probably larger than needed. A 15K BTU unit will run fine on a 2000, and it would probably support an even larger unit if there was room enough to mount it, but I wanted mine in the door. I would love a bigger A/C, but space limitations don't allow it. If I were routinely traveling in a hotter climate I'd consider finding a way to mount a bigger unit, but the smaller one really takes the edge off.

I put my Honda 2000 in the Aluminess box. It runs my 13,500 btu AC just fine. I carry the Honda 2000 I companion inside as a backup. The 3500 is just too heavy.
