Basketcase

Ever feel the need to throw a case of your favorite beverage on the back of your van and make a quick getaway? Or maybe, stop at the camp host site and buy a couple bundles of firewood?

This is what I did to my Dirtbag Home Made/Ground up build today.

I added a Yakima Basketcase to the bike rack portion of the Aluminess rear bumper today. It's a sweet fit for the Aluminess bike rack. Perfect width and about 2" to deep, but beats the cost of a custom built rack.

Re: Basketcase

Looks great...I like your new racks carrying example. Seems to be quite strong.

Re: Basketcase

I'm struggling with the cinnamon whiskey though.

I'm more of a single malt, or Kentucky bourbon guy myself.

Well thought out and arranged bumper configuration though.

Re: Basketcase

I have the exact same basket on one of my Rotary Pickups. Now I might have to move it to the van!

Re: Basketcase

Be careful with the net, I left mine on my van and it deteriorated really quickly and is now just falling apart. Yakima won't replace.

Re: Basketcase

The net will live inside the van when it's not in use. I don't want it to rot or grow legs.

I'll probably use the basketcase to haul bundles of firewood around a campground more than anything else. It will make an excellent place to hang a drysuit when I'm camped next to a river.

Per Tim at Aluminesses warning I will try and limit the overall weight I put on the swing-arm. I don't plan on ever carrying 15 gallons of gas, 7.5 gallons of water and something on the basketcase. If I ever need to carry 15 gallons of gas I'll move the water inside. Tim said the swingarm will only stay happy with something like 3 gas cans, a BBQ and a bike.
