Big Dog ramp

Hi, we have a 130lb Bernese Mountain Dog that is getting a little older. He just stands out side the van with a "are you ####ing kidding" look......... we have stair's for him, but he's starting to have a little trouble navigating them.

I was wondering if anyone have made a simple ramp that is easy to store and use?

Thanks

We've used something very similar to this setup for the past year. Our dog weighs about 80lbs. I find it easier to just help the dog climb into the van, but my wife prefers to have him walk up the ramp.

It is a bit of a PITA to carry around the ramp.

Re: Big Dog ramp

We use basically the same thing in our SMB. It works well, although it can get slippery for humans...I learned that the embarrasing way (although I didn't spill my beer).

Re: Big Dog ramp

Hi All, We just got our dog ramp and it seams to do the trick. It's light easy to use and very thin. Bryce headed right up and gave us the "let's go" look....... Now all I need is a door talon!

Please check out our gallery for some action shots. not quite sure how to insert a photo here..........

Thanks for the help.

Re: Big Dog ramp

It must be a Bernese Mountain Dog thing. Ours is a mix Bernese and Springer Spaniel (and a whole host of lesser contributors) and he has only jumped into the van twice in his life. We have to pick him up, but at 75 lbs is a little more manageable than yours.

Having said that, we bought a nice ramp and our dog also gave us the "are you bleeping serious" look. Sooooo, if you are looking for a nice ramp, I can offer it to you at a discount over new (and it is basically new and unfortunately never used) if you are in the SF Bay area (I'm in the east bay).

Re: Big Dog ramp

Greg, glad to hear it worked out well for you and I liked the pictures.

Phil, great looking dog. You can actually (potentially) train your dog to use the ramp, assuming they like dog treats. Just place some treats along the ramp and have your talk walk up the ramp getting the treats as they go. Do the same for when they leave the van. Keep on repeating this, lessening the number of treats each time. You should probably space this over a couple of days. Eventually your dog should be fine with it. Just a suggestion

Re: Big Dog ramp

Did you ever consider he just doesn't want to go with you?

Maybe he'd rather stay home alone.

Re: Big Dog ramp

I bought this for me (I do not have a dog) but never used it. I found a 2 step option I am using instead.

If any member of the forum can use it they can have it for free if they want to pick it up. PM me.
