Gimme a break. 8 grand for a big box you tow around behind you just so you can deal with a problem we've all managed to deal with since the dawn of man? Literally!!! I gotta call BS on that.

I agree that the price point will be the issue more than anything. If a person can afford this they will have the budget to have a van/rv with an interior bath. Financial Darwinism.

Also I have thought about how awesome a bidet would be. But, (no pun intended) that is by far what my outdoor shower gets used for. I mean if you wash your hands, face and connecting bridge you can go a long time without a Hollywood shower.

Which reminds me. Has anyone else had the awkward experience of sitting on the cosmic commode in the van and have people gather outside checking out the van? I have learned the few times this has happened to run the maxxfan on high before exiting and saying hi because you know they will want a tour of the inside.

Seems like a lot of effort just to eliminate tail-gaters. Seriously though, it looks like the interior of a jobsite porta john, I thought we all used our vans to get away from the daily grind, not bring it with us?

Harbor Freight hitch basket = $50
New poly outhouse= $650

Just add a bumper sticker that says something along the lines of "If you're close enough to smell this...."

These really aren't that much to rent, and can be picked up locally in many places:

Bolt-on bathroom unit for rear of van

I think it makes a certain amount of sense for the types of campervans often seen in Europe. People use vans like the VW Westfalia as daily drivers as well as getaway vehicles for their annual 3-4 week long holidays. Many European campgrounds have limited (or no) bathroom facilities and are basically parking lots.

So, the advantage to this is you can have your smaller-size daily driver, but when you head off on holiday you can convert it into more of an RV with a full toilet and shower. $8k does seem like a lot, but I bet that’s about what it costs to build that functionality into a bigger camper.

Folks here happily plunk down $5k for an Aluminess bumper setup, so what’s a few grand more for a toilet and a hot shower that you can use in a Wal-Mart lot overnight? :-)
