Re: CB Radio Recommendations
I've been trying Sparky's, but nobody picks up the phone there and I would like some help from a salesperson.
Any other places somebody could recommend here?
Thanks.
Paul

Re: CB Radio Recommendations
I "use" a Cobra 29. I find it impractical for communicating with anyone other than in a caravan. My range is probably just a few miles. The only thing of value on it is the weather information feature. Also, almost every time I have my CB on someone with a powerful base station is talking to someone else with a base station the entire time on channel 19. Like I said, the CB is good when traveling with several other Sportsmobiles in a caravan. Mostly I just keep the thing turned off.

Re: CB Radio Recommendations
I should be rolling out in May, probably southern route, and great chance be in your neck of the woods by the end of the month. Some of it depends on the person who'll be staying at my home here, but early May is planned liftoff.
Let's talk then. I'd love to meet up with as many of the SMB Forum people as possible.

Re: CB Radio Recommendations
You should be able to find a number of places all over the US. Somebody that deals with comercial radios should have the high tech equipment but it seems that some of the truckers have their favorite spots and many time places are set up at the bigger truck stops. Around Modesto is 10-4 communications. Then there are those questionable places like this

Paul,
We've actually already "met". I was the creepy dude chasing you up Telegraph pass snapping pictures in a red Jeep Rubicon right after you stopped for Starbucks. That was while I was trying to decided between Quadvan and SMB for my 4x4 conversion. After sending them my pics of your van with some questions, they told me you had just picked it up a couple of days prior.
So there you go, it's like we're brothers! Well, in a creepy stalker sort of way... But, just that once - I swear!!!

They told me about you...
Next time, pull alongside and wave. I usually drive slower than everybody on the road, almost, at least....

Re: CB Radio Recommendations
Peaked & tweaked 959 Galaxy cb/ssb here.
I haven't had the opportunity to test its range yet...
I hope to add a 10 meter in the future.

Re: CB Radio Recommendations
So, I'm not going to use the Wilson 1000 magnetic - or any magnetic antenna - because I don't want to take the chance of mounting it in the front and having it whip into my new solar panel. There's not much other room on top, so I'm going to go with a hard mounted antenna in the rear somewhere.
Where do you guys run the wire into the vehicle? I am curious as to where you actually cut the hole. Also, is there a max length I can go on that cable before the signal degrades?
Thanks.
Paul

Pissed me off. The panel lasted less than 2 weeks. I never even knew it was blown out until Mike 6.0 looked and said "your panel looks..." Whoo! Not a good feeling!
