I store some under the bed and some in the box on the back of the SMB. I am never worried about the green Coleman propane canisters. I've stored cases of them in my hot garage in Las Vegas for years. I guess in a fire they could be a concern, but if your SMB is in a fire it will probably be totaled anyway. Might as well go out with a bang!

For ~11$ I was able to get 5 brass caps with seals a couple months ago on ebay. My solder bag is too small to hold my torch with tank attached so I put a brass cap on the tank. Sometimes the valves stick open a bit, the general rule is once you put it on you dont take it off until the tank is empty. Luckily the valves these days are a bit better as a couple years ago the major manufacturer of them had gotten sued when they mishandled a recall over bad valves. The seats used to get rusty pretty quick, now even my oldest tanks look nice. I think they use a better valve seal too, it's a different color and a bit softer.
