Colmane Propane Container Storage

Hi All.

I have not posted because I'm still in process of buying a van - which should happen this month or next - but I do travel and camp with my Tacoma a lot and was wondering what people do or what the consensus is on storage of Coleman propane canisters.

I usually carry them in the bed of my truck, but that will change, obviously, when I get the van. Is it considered safe to stow them in the passenger compartment? I was thinking of using an ammo box.

I store them in the underfloor storage along with the butane canisters for the stove.

I store ours under the sofa with the dirty laundry. I'm not worried about them opening in an accident - they are pretty tough!

Re: Colmane Propane Container Storage

We used to store them in the bottom of the closet.

Now store them outside the van in our rear storage boxes. Also store all Coleman fuel exterior to the van.

Have never had a problem but was asked at one campsite to baby sit a slowly leaking partially used cylinder and dispose of it when it was empty. The guy had to pull out and did not want to put in inside his vehicle.

Nomadcat,

Are you planning on any exterior options such as, bumpers, spare tire carrier, etc.?

Re: Colmane Propane Container Storage

Going to build up my own, but will have aluminess or trojan front bumper and winch, rear will probably have two alumniness swingaway tire carriers. I always carry two spares. I'll probably use an ammo box for 20mm carts.

Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Colmane Propane Container Storage

I bought one of the smallest refillable propane tanks that they make. It's a little over a foot tall and maybe 10 inches around. I'm glad to be done with those overpriced disposable tanks. I keep mine in the box on the aluminess bumper.

Re: Colmane Propane Container Storage

I think I'm going to keep them in a baja box on the bumper.

Good idea! We kept ours inside the Box on the rear with other tanks.
