Re: door mounted outdoor stove

Amazon.com has a lot listed for sale, just search for "Butane Stove" in Sports & Outdoors. Here is an example of one of the many listed http://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-Butane-...1137305&sr=1-1

Re: door mounted outdoor stove

Saline, looks like you have the comercial version (the red one) in your picture. Is it a better stove than the ones SMB sells?

Re: door mounted outdoor stove

I have found that the butane box stove SMB provides is worthless in cold weather.

The butane canisters are also expensive and hard to find.

Propane canisters are everywhere, are cheaper, last longer, and work in the cold.

I would sell the butane box stove that SMB provided for $10 + shipping if anybody wants it.

Re: door mounted outdoor stove

I have an old SMB supplied stove (?) and one like the red one pictured (SMB supplied with my 2005 van AFIK). I actually like the older one better- you can set the flame, whereas the one that came with the van has three settings, off, blowtorch (aka standby) and liquefy Beryllium (anything above standby).

Re: door mounted outdoor stove

The door mounted box allows two outdoor cooking surfaces. Drop down door boxes on an Aluminess bumper, with full swivels, allows a third outdoor cooking area which several people use to place a grill or some other cooking device that needs to be farther away from the van interior. This allows three cooking areas, all close together, each of which quickly packs away. You have a full kitchen area that deploys and packs away in moments.

Butane Stove

3 asian markets were visited yesterday and Big 5

Asian Stores = $12 for stove in plastic case / $0.99 per canister
Big 5 = $24 for stove

Re: door mounted outdoor stove

I've been interested in these stoves for a while and here's what I found:

Butane is worthless in freezing temps.
Butane provides similar BTU's
Butane or at least the stoves work poorly in the wind
It appears that in the 50's Butane was the primary fuel for RV's. Now it's Propane.
In Europe, you can buy mixed Butane and Propane BUT in freezing temps, the Propane burns off first and then the remaining Butane does not work.

The Big Plus for Butane is that gives off little if any Carbon Monixide? (I'll have to re check that)
