Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Thanks Bill. Did you do anything special to attach the brackets to the van? Or just sheet metal screws?

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
I attached mine with sheet metal screws.
Front bracket
Rear bracket
Awning extended
Close up of bracket. See the 'L' shaped notch with a pin in it. The pin is pushed to the upper part of the 'L' to insert the awning foot. The pin falls to the bottom of the 'L' by gravity to lock the foot in place.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Mike, thanks so much for taking the time to post those pictures, it is really helpful. Seems like a great idea and I'm guessing it is a more sturdy solution as well. Just another item for my task list .

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
I wonder if a small piece of angle iron hanging down from underneath the van body would work as well? Mount that to the frame, or at least an inconspicuous part of the van body, and then mount to awning bracket to that. I'm always hesitant to put additional holes into a vehicle body.
Of course, then you have to worry about dragging that on rocks, or snapping it off.

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
SD,
Since you purchased your awning from SMB West, they can probably send you the Fiamma brackets. Here is what Peter from SMB west kindly sent us. I'm going to have them powder coated, black, before installing.

Herb,
I thought about the same thing when I was talking to SMB TX about this possibility.
There were a few issues raised as I remember:
1. that low and that far recessed there was some sort of geometry issue
2. the connection getting caught on something and ripped off
3. the possibility of opening the door into the awning leg
The other thing that I was warned about was the possibility of what could happen in heavy winds if left un attended ..... legs very close to can body....

Re: Fiamma awning droop?
Now I'm wondering if I could utilize the nerf bars for the brackets. This would allow me to avoid putting any holes into the van. It may also allow us to open/close the front passenger door when the awning is deployed. Unfortunately, I know the outer edge of the nerf bar is curved. I guess I would need to have the brackets in hand to really know for sure. I will be contacting SMB soon about some other issues as well, so I guess I will get them then. Thanks again everyone.

I think you will find the legs are too short to fully extend the awning. In fact, I want to move my brackets higher up on the van to get the awning to extend further.
