Re: Firewood

I use an old large rafting dry bag full of wood and throw it up top on my thule roof rack cage, or if I have kayaks I fill the cockpits full of wood, and cover with cockpit covers.

Re: Firewood

When allowed by the state and park/area being visited: We only carry one bundle of wood and it fits upright in doubled up paper grocery bags. Sometimes we put a paper bag over the top of the bundle too. Then is stows in an collapsible Thule carry case that we secure inside the rear of the van. We are careful on loading/unloading due to the concerns you raised about scratching the interior, but check out my photo gallery to see why this is not such a concern for me towards the rear of the van - vinyl wall-to-wall coverage half way up the sides in back.

Re: Firewood

I only buy local wood now. Do not take wood from home with me anymore. emerald ash borers are well on the way of destroying all the ash trees in the Midwest. I think it is in over 14 states now and has killed ~10,000,000 ash trees. Many people now do not talk kindly to people seen transporting campfire wood in the Midwest. Of course the answer always is: buts woods so expensive up here or who could this little bit of wood do any damage?

Firewood

I pack two plywood boxes full of dimensional lumber from my household projects. The boxes were built to fit between the dinette benches.
