Honda EU2200i

Anybody know why the Honda EU2200i generator was suddenly discontinued? It was my next purchase.

I just read that there was a recall on them because a screw would come loose somewhere and cause issues.

I found this about Honda generator recall: http://https://www.consumerreports.o...er-generators/ but it doesn't cover the EU2200i models.

I'm still finding the EU2200i's available for sale even from a local professional lawn & snow removal equipment outfitter.

They seem to be out there for sale---where or from whom are you experiencing shortages?

I can't find any info suggesting they are discontinued. Maybe just temporarily low on stock?

With parts of OR and WA having been without power for over a week (some locales going on 3 weeks of and on now), there's a good chance they're being scooped up.

Have you looked for a Companion model? It's a little more $, but includes a 30 amp receptacle. Then you can add a regular 2200i later for parallel service.

I'm also finding a more commercial type Honda generator, model #EB2800. It has some nice features but does not have the 30 amp three prong twist-lock receptacle. It can be found on eBay for less than $800 new, minimal shipping.

That EB 2800 is kinda a hybrid generator.... It has an open frame like contractor generator, but still uses inverter technology. But still at 62-69 db... It's roughly 10 dB louder than the EU22000 which is rated at 48 to 57 dB

My Ryobi 2200 (a green colored Honda knockoff) was rated new at 59 db at 25% load, which was only slightly higher the old Honda 2000 at 57db. But with age it's gotten a bit louder, and now that I've used the new Honda 22000's at work, I'm pretty tempted to upgrade to a real Honda the near future....
