Hood Mask???

Anyone know where I can find a hood mask for my SMB? Ive seen a few on random pics on the site so know they're out there. I just want something to protect the hood from rocks, etc. and will fit with the Aluminess front bumpers. And if you have one, would you recommend it? Thanks in advance. Gary

Yep, that's the one. Where'd you get it/what brand?

Thanks, Dave.

Hood mask

SMB west had them last time I was there (2 months ago) and they now have a nice SMB logo on them. I really like the way they look, just be aware that stuff gets under them and can scratch the paint. But dents are probable worse.

Here's another option. It's a clear plastic film that covers the hood and fenders. I have not used or seen it in person.

Herb that looks good. I think the bra looks great but the crap that gets under it is a problem. On top of that, pine pitch has given me the most trouble on the hoods paint. This might be a solution. Can you peel it off with no problems at any time?

Ford uses a plastic hood so dents are not really likely. Rock chips are the only real issue and even then given the height of the hood on a 4x4 van this is not really much of a concern. Unless of coarse you like to tailgate dumptrucks on gravels roads. I say forget the bra. You will not have to clean behind it or listen to it flap when it gets older and streches out a little. My .o2.

The bra isn't for me. It looks terrible and the slight amount of function, if any, does not compensate for the problems mentioned, including color fade outline.

Sorry Herb!

Hood Mask

Herb, Jeff’s probably correct on the fading issue but I have had a bra on my (white) pickup since 93 and haven’t had too much of a problem and it sits in full sun all day. Dark vehicles are more prone to fading issues most of the time and I see your van is white. I still worry about the fact that, if they no longer have the same style of bra available, you might have to re-paint the hood. Again, not too much of an issue for a white rig but still a concern. I was actually thinking of buying a backup bra just in case. With my luck it would rot before I needed to replace the original one. I used to pull the bra off every time I washed the van, but after the sides got scrathced up from brush I'm not so concered. The new wore off. I bought the vehicle to get me into where I need to be and I can always re-paint it. I wasn’t aware that the hood is not metal. I have knocked on it and wondered, but didn’t know for sure. As far as looks, do what you want to do. When it comes to cosmetics, that’s your choice. BTW I’m a black/white guy even though I don’t like black rims, but the bra really makes a white vehicle look great IMO. Besides, all our rigs turn heads anyway. Enjoy!
