Do you use them for water? What are they painted with on the inside?

I think even the euro cans are specific to water vs fuel, fuel being green and water colored blue. When I looked into purchasing some of these, the site claimed the blue ones were coated with a food grade safe material.

Re: Nato 5 gallon and 1 gallon gas cans

I'm looking at carrying a pair of Wedco water jerry cans on top of an Aluminess cargo box. It looks like the holders are designed to bolt to the surface below them. Anyone have thoughts about drilling holes in the cargo box--stability, watertightness, or other issues?

hmm 8#/gal x 5 =40 x 2 =80#s+ rack and can weight way above the axle height and way behind the rear axel could become a stability problem

Makes sense. How is that different from fuel containers &/or bikes?

Re: Nato 5 gallon and 1 gallon gas cans

would depend on the elevation where bikes and fuel are located. Bikes (which are usually a bit lighter) spread the load across or to the center of the vehicle not one side. Fuel stored beside the box is lower. If it is on top of the box it could have the same effect as the water depending on capacity and containers (gasoline is a bit lighter/gallon than water).
