Mine are in the running boards, yes I still have running boards.

Passenger side

Used rubber cane tips to keep the dust out of them.

Air connections

If at all possible and if you do a lot of beach or dusty trails I would suggest putting your air chucks anywhere inside the rig.
I have mine on the side of my drivers seat base. I plan on extending it to the passenger seat but for now all I have to do is pass the hose to the other side over the seat.
I was also lucky enough to mount my ARB compressor under the seat. Now everything is out of the elements.

I like my air chuck outside, so I use a rubber dust boot cover on it.

I don't see that much mud, but dust and sand are almost constant where I end up camping. I wondered about issues my external quick connect, but so far, the compressed air just ends up cleaning it out as I make the connection. I generally leave my air horn plugged into the connection these days. -- I wanted to make that easy to disconnect in case an officer took issue with it.

My connection is centered on the driver side by the frame rail. I do want to add another one on the passenger side.

My engine compartment is really cramped, I have no idea where you'd put a second AC compressor

From what I've read, be sure to mount the suction port on top due to an oil return line. No firsthand knowledge if this is accurate or not. I still have my York compressor sitting on a garage shelf instead of mounted in my Bronco where it's supposed to be. Been on a garage shelf for years...

I put mine out back and was really careful to always cover it. Still got jammed with sand and dirt to where I couldn't use it one time. I'm going to just run them to the interior to keep them clean.
