I agree. Made quick work of up to 6" pinyon when a guy got stuck in NV when I was there. Forgot how devastating those are if they're sharp. Maybe not if you're using it a lot, like for firewood instead of emergency recovery.

^^^^^ My brother-in-law always brings along his many battery powered tools and saws.
We always end up using my hand tools 'cause his batteries are dead (smiley face wonky crap)

Re: OOOOOHHHH...

Went with the bow saw. I now have a machete, saw and ax for twigs, branches and trees. We recently got stuck on a "trail" that got tighter and tighter and we couldn't turn around. It was severely over grown so I had no choice but to hack my way forward. The machete worked well for the smaller stuff but was not ideal for branches larger than 1". I just can't justify the expense and space for a chainsaw although I want one so badly.

Re: OOOOOHHHH...

If space wasn't such an issue, I'd jump on an electric chainsaw. But the Sven saw has been my basic saw I've used while packing since the early 70's. Bought the longer version for the van. What's nice about a Sawzall is that it might get you out of a jam in other ways. As far as wood, stuff over 4" is the starting of splitting so I don't cut wood larger than that anyway so my Sven saw works well.

Re: OOOOOHHHH...

I went through this same whole process back in 2006. Bought an 18v electric chain saw from Home Depot. It was OK, but the bar oil makes it super messy. I stored it in a trash bag so the oil wouldn't get all over the van, and soon realized it wasn't worth the effort. Now I carry a sawzall and a hand saw. Sawzall works great and isn't messy -- though, yeah, remembering to keep the batteries charged can be frustrating.
