Re: Pico Chairs

I've been looking at the CGI camp chairs...they make the Pico chairs. The magazine Overland Journal had a review of camp chairs in its Spring 2009 issue and, although they didn't pick an Editor's favorite, their testers really liked the GCI Pico camp chair. CGI now has an Xpress Lounger chair which looks very similar. REI carries both the Xpress Lounger and the original Telescoping Chair...the Telescoping Chair is $130 while the Xpress Lounger Chair is $55. I've e-mailed CGI asking about the the differences between the two models and am waiting for an answer.

Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) with the less-expensive Xpress Lounger chair?

Re: Pico Chairs

I have had my Pico's over a year but after this last weekend I will be replacing them with the xpress chair.
I have noticed that fine dust/sand gums up the Picos and I keep having to spray lube them.
Also over the weekend I had a rear seat cast corner bit crack & break.
I have heard of this happening to a few other people.
REI was great about the return & exchange for the Xpress chair. So far it seems stronger but just doesn't fold as small.

Re: Pico Chairs

Here is the e-mail response I received this morning from CGI about the difference between the Armchair vs the Xpress Lounger:

"Our Pico Armchair is an aluminum steel hybrid framed chair and folds very small, the Pico comes with it's own messenger style carry bag and comes in two colors, Midnight Blue and Sage Green and weighs in at 9lbs. Compared with the Pico the Xpress Lounger is an all steel framed chair, it does not come with it's own carry bag and also folds small ( although differently than the Pico ) the XLougner comes in Hunter Green, Midnight Blue and Grey. The Xpress Lounger retails for $60 where as the Pico retail cost is anywhere between $99.99 and $129.99 ( depending on the retailer ). The two chairs are both very comfortable and both have seating heights of 17", the Pico is a bit wider and deeper than the Xpress Lounger, both chairs have a weight capacity of 250lbs."

Re: Pico Chairs

Well I can say from experience that I never ever used the bag for the Pico's. It just wasn't practical to put them in a bag each time.
So far I like the Xpress pretty well. I have been using it at home in the office and living room to force test it

Re: Pico Chairs

I just clicked on the above link for Amazon and it appears that the Express Chair can be had for as low as $40.00 , there is also a link on the page page for a free National Parks pass on special orders of a certain amount .

Re: Pico Chairs

I just bought a Walkstool. Kind of high priced but holds 500 lbs. It folds up very small, is easy to tote in its own bag and is a great backup to have on board in case my main chair breaks. I can use it duck hunting and even works OK when using a telescope. YMMV

Re: Pico Chairs

These Walkstand stools are very popular in Europe for various Field Sport Events , they are frequently provided on driven bird shoots and by Ghillies on private waters ! In fact I purchased one for my wife that She used when she fell out of the SportsMobile and broke her Ankle in the Sierras , thanks for the reminder Dave .

Re: Pico Chairs

Way to bring back an old thread.

Anywho, I like the concept of the pico but does anyone have issues with it once it gets sand/grit in it?

I read reviews that its telescoping function suffers once it has any debris on it.
