Clearly, the goal should be to arrive after the sun is down, and then there's no sense in putting up the awning when it's not needed, so there's no impediment to opening a few cold ones.

Re: Portable Awning
I don't know how to create a link so I will only be able to point you to the web site that has a great awning that will fit over the side doors and add a room with ease.
The GoWesty.com site that specialized in VW Campers have a great one.
Even though that vehicle has the sliding door it should work perfectly for both the side doors
and the back doors. Easy to assemble and take down in minutes.

Re: Portable Awning
I see this product continues to develop. It does seem to provide a cost effective alternative to hard mounting the rack on the vehicle. Has anyone had more recent experience with the Bus Depo products? I have some questions into them about their recent products.

Please describe your experience Scotty----I'm thinking this type awning could be useful for me but not if it has issues or the seller isn't reliable.
TIA

Portable Awning
Well, mine was an earlier version without suction cups or cordura straps and clips. It had these crude metal clamps. I found it difficult and slow to set up and take down. Lots of parts to put together. I'm talking 20 minutes each time you put it up or take down. And all the while the sun or rain you were trying to block is beating down on you.
It's like an old school tent. Metal sectioned poles and fiberglass rods. The biggest disappointment, however, is how it clamps to the vehicle. I scratched my paint several times with the lousy clamps provided. I would NOT recommend this awning to anyone who isn't setting up camp for several days. No way is it a quickie like the fixed style awnings.

Re: Portable Awning
Thanks Scotty----I guess that "affordable price" has its costs right?

I think I'm somewhere in the middle with my experience. I do agree with Scotty, in that I won't put ours up unless we are staying for a few days. However, my experience getting it together is much better than Scotty's. By myself, maybe 10 minutes. Two people who've done it before can bang it out in 5 minutes. It's light weight, stores very easy and is good in a pinch. We use those cheap aluminum carabiners from Home Depot to clip the awning to the metal rings of the pop-top that keep the shock cord in place - fast and easy and has never been a problem.

Re: Portable Awning
Since busdepot is out of stock of the large beige ones, has anyone noticed a manufacturers name on the awning? Maybe we could contact them directly. I am really interested in getting one or at least something like it. Great find. Thanks
