Only bad thing about this particular set up is its bulkiness and figuring out where to store it. Only alternative I can think of is a propane fueled campfire.

The washer tub looks like a nice solution to your problem.

I've read nothing but good things about Pit 2 Go.

For the size, the pit 2 go is probably the best out there. It's heavy but well made. You need to keep the wood sized correctly but it really kicks out the heat for the ammount of wood you put into it. Just be aware that you can't use it with fire restrictions in place like you can with a propane fire. You can use it in Death Valley NP though. I carry an ammo can to pack out the ashes.

The Snow Peak is a great unit because of the optional accessories made for it that allows for creative cooking . It comes with a storage bag set up and is very Sturdy and Compact . We opted for the Medium size and have been very pleased with it . we bought ours from the
www.expeditionexchange.com along with all of accessories .

The washing machine tub works great. It's cheap, breaths very well, radiates heat like crazy, and it fits in the cargo carrier on the roof or under the cargo area in the back. When in transit I fill it with some of the firewood so it doesn't seem to take up all that much space. It probably weighs about 8 lbs.

(Hi buddy !)

Ammo can VERY cool, thanx

propane vs wood
1) like it because plug and play, no wood
2) dont like because i need long hose or another tank
3) wife (and me too like food cooked over wood

my fire ring now is 18 pounds
(artic products, flat steel that folds, two pieces, makes a ring)

the Pit 2 Go is 42 pounds

so i add 20 pounds

probabley about what a xtra tank weights
(i would not use a long hose to SMB tank)

...now if i had some fancy trailer.......
