Rear Swing Arm Options

I have an E250 with a factory rear step bumper and I would like to mount an Aluminess type of rear box without having to buy a complete Aluminess bumper to do it. In other words, I would like to do it and keep the factory rear bumper. It seems as though Aluminess use to offer just the swing arm but don't any longer.

What are my options and are there other vendors besides Aluminess that I can look towards? It would be nice to find a design that mounts to the hinges so it opens with the door.

Have you called Aluminess and asked them about the swing arm. The last I checked with them, beginning or the year, they still offered the swingarm separately from their bumper.

I have not. I did not see it offered on their web site and thought I had read that it was no longer offered. But thanks, I will reach out to them.

I'm not aware that they have ever offered the right side "box" swingarm with support stuff for a factory bumper; just the left "spare tire" side..........but I've only been paying attention since around 2012.

You need way more than just the swingarm to get the swingarm mounted on the van.

I have contacted them before about the swing arm. They do sell it. But they don’t advertise it because it’s not rated for that much weight and you still have to put a box on it and fill it with stuff. But you can get it. I think it’s like $700 then you have to buy a box for 400-800. So many would rather just go full bumper with the higher weight capacity. If I recall they rate the swing arm for like 50 pounds empty. So add the box and you’re at 40 pounds or so of capacity. With a bumper it’s at least twice that.

Garage
^^^^^ talked to them about 2 months ago, explained swing arm on the new bumper is rated for about 100lbs, and if you opt for the bike rack option, it's an additional 100lbs you can mount on the rack.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping that there might be another option besides Aluminess.

Reunel still makes jumpers with swing arms. However, you have to buy the whole bumper and they are steel, so they weigh as much as the moon.

Look into OWL Vans to see if their rear door solution works with your van.

Thanks. I contacted them already and they’re not producing anything for the E Series.
