Re: Rud chains

Thanks guys,
I think I found some online but I cant seem to find any 35" size with our 18" rim size.
Could I use ones for 20" rims? It seems the rim size would be for how far over the sidewall the chain comes over? Or would 17" size be better but then possibly damage the rim?
Sorry never delt with chains before but I will need to come January.

Re: Rud chains

I lived and worked at a major ski area for 20 years and have seen and used many types of chains.

If you really want the chains to work in severe conditions use traditional chains with a extra bar welded onto the cross links on all 4 wheels. Use at least 2 chain tensioners on each wheel.

People think the cable chains are easier to put on(because of lack of proper chaining techniques), but the cable chains don't work as well.

Re: Rud chains

Check out this web site http://www.tirechain.com/315-70-17.htm, its where I bought mine. They seem to be styled after the Rud chains with the hard plastic back edge that makes them easier to put on. Great outfit to work with, prompt shipping, and I thought the prices were very good.

I bought sets for all 4 wheels for a ski trip last year where snow was forecast, but never had to actually use them. The van did great in the snow in just 4 wheel drive (it wasn't icy).

Re: Rud chains

We had the same problem finding chains for our 35's...... RUD was a no go, and so was the second manufacturer that Bill told me about. We did find some that I think I am happy with. They seem extremely heavy duty..... and very heavy. Aircraft cable "chains" If you need the manufacturer and the palce we bought them, let me know.

These people will custom make for any size, are VERY HD, & have way more cross chain (every 2 links) than any I have seen.
