Time to devote a separate thread to Shadyboy?
We had the Shady Boy Awning as well on our Westy. Its a real good awning and mounting system. Here are some pics.

I believe the awning was around $300.00, you can also mount it using Eli's Brackets, since you don't want to drill into your van.

Re: Shady Boy Awning

Ray,

I’ve had the Shadyboy awning on my to do list for a while. I remember them from my Vanagon Westy days and thought that they where a nice design. Light and compact, just like I like it. It might be a few more months before I get one put on the van though as there are several mods in front of that.

Re: Shady Boy Awning

Here are my photos of our ShadyBoy awning from the other thread. I've removed it from our Westfalia and will have it installed on our E350 (which I should be getting back early next week).

It's relatively small and light. About four feet long when closed, but the awning extends to about ten feet long (parallel to the van) when open, and about six feet deep (perpendicular to the van).

Re: Shady Boy Awning

Here are a few of the ShadyBoy while still on the Westy.

Closed up, you can see the length.

Deployed, it extends up over the front door and an equal distance to the back.

Here it is with the aluminum poles extending to the ground (preventing downdrafts), and the tent cords extending diagonally back to the van (preventing updrafts). It was windy (and hot) here.

When I get my E350 back next week, I will post photos of the mounted SlimShady. As I mentioned in the other thread, it was attached to my Westfalia with self-tapping screws, but GTRV may come up with another option for mounting it to the Ford.

Edit to add: There are quite a few more photos at Country Homes Campers, including different mounting options and a video of the awning being set up. Mine was mounted to the Vanagon similar to this:

Note that the pop top would cover the screws when closed.

Re: Shady Boy Awning

Now you can order the shadyboy with gutter mounts. I'm going to mount a shadyboy one the rear of my SMB above the back doors.

Do you have any pictures of the gutter mounts? All the installations on their website show brackets drilled into the roof. Also, any idea if the gutter mounts are standard or an extra cost option?
