Re: Spare Tire Trash Bag Cover

I would think an army surplus duffel or something along those lines would get you pretty close. I still have some army surplus bags I used on my motorcycle for saddlebags... good heavy canvas, not quite big enough for trash.

Re: Spare Tire Trash Bag Cover

I did have it custom made by a shop here locally. I got the idea from the internet. But the ones I saw on the internet were way to expensive. I use it for garbage and it works great, just be aware if you are in bear country. It also works great for wet or dirty gear like fishing waders and boots or wetsuits. It is large enough to carry alot but I would not put alot of heavy recovery stuff in it.

Re: Spare Tire Trash Bag Cover

I know where to find these and they are sold for US$ 110 here is Switzerland.
They are made down under and a friend import's them in Europa, he has a few in stock.

Made of strong PVC and has a drain in the bottom.

If interest, I can check if it could be sent directly from Australia.

I use those water proof white water bags. This one is a pack with straps but it's expensive... 100 bucks. Definately not for bear country.

Nothing's wrong with it. That's actually a good idea. However, i'd want to put more trash into the bag than a back pack would probably hold.

I kicked myself in the ass for throwing my old backpacks away. Even the frame and straps would have worked good for my use. But I do like the water tight properties of my setup. With a frame I could have strapped a couple of raft bags to it and those bags are about 25 bucks. It would work fine. I also thought about army surplus ammo cans but large ones are kind of heavy.

Re: Spare Tire Trash Bag Cover

I can't help wonder just how much trash you guys can generate on a trip before you find a dumpster. Even after two or three days, I've only filled my little trash can stored under the sink, and maybe another plastic grocery bag that I keep in the baja box until I find a dumpster.

Re: Spare Tire Trash Bag Cover

Usually i fill a large black trash bag within 2-3 days of being in the field away from civilization. Thats with using my washable aluminum plates and silverware. It just adds up. Also, many times i become the town hall.. where everyone thinks my trash bag is their trash bag.
