I've always wondered why you guys don't fab one up yourself- is there something haltingly complex about the sliding door on these that I'm missing?

I had a 1996 GMC SAFARI and it had a catch that wouldn't let you slide the door closed unless you pull the door handle in the opposite direction that you would to open it. My 2001 SAFARI no longer has that mechanism. Now I get hit by that door more often then I want to admit. I can't figure out why they removed that.
If I ever have a chance to see a sliding door on a Ford van I will take a look.

Re: THE DOOR TALON. A better way to secure your side door
I have had a total of 7 Ford Vans over the years for work and 2 of my Quigleys that were our adventure / fun vehicles that had the sliding side doors , and all of them locked in place . You merely raised the handle to slide the door shut . On the Quigleys or any Van with oversized Tires and Wheels you will need the door extending bars to clear your rear wheel to lock the door in place . If it were not for the very usable side door cabinet I think my preference would be the Sliding Door !

Re: THE DOOR TALON. A better way to secure your side door
I wish I had a Talon to keep that door CLOSED. mine eventually loosens at the top latch! I have not been able t get the hook/latch to stay in a tight closed position. Has anyone found a way to adjust this ford top latch?

patrick, do you have a cabinet on your door? Because if you do, that is most likely the problem. The same thing was happening to me until I reinforced the hinges for that cabinet. Check out this post by jage, viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6958
I hope this fixes your problem,
John

Re: THE DOOR TALON. A better way to secure your side door
No pantry cabinet on the door, I have loosened the U type hook on the body and pushed it back and retightened but still it shakes loose. Puzzling as the door release handle seems tighter to the touch when opening, like it is tighter but still the same problem. thinking maybe I need to oval out the holes to position it even farther back. We are considering selling the pantry as we like the extra interior space when stealthing it and easier to get in and out of bed when 2 of us are sleeping there.

Re: THE DOOR TALON. A better way to secure your side door
Have you tried shutting it with the "shut hard while holding midway up window"? That made a difference for me before I discovered the reinforcement. Also you had a pantry, not sure the pantry is the problem or removing it fixes anythiing- I'd try the above and if it works do some reinforcement anyway.
Also, did moving the striker back help originally?

The peer pressure is growing. I might have to order a Talon just to keep current.
