Trouble with Kenwood DNX7100

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I have the Kenwood DNX7100 that has XM, IPOD, DVD, GPS, Bluetooth and a bunch of other gizmos.

I was listening to XM radio and tried tuning to a different station. The Head-unit locked up. No reception on XM at all. All the other components work just fine.

I called Kenwood and discussed the problem with Rob in Fresno as well. I tried thier fix which was to unplugged the XM receiver and reset the head unit. Still no work.

Unless someone comes up with another idea or solution, I will need to send the unit back to Kenwood for repair.

Any Ideas?

Charlie,
A month or so ago I also had a problem with XM. Couldn't get any stations but the sampler. Had to call xm and get it reinstalled from their end. I had paid for the year so it isn't like they stopped service. An hour later I'm back to full service. I have a kenwood 8019 with add-on Terc receiver. Hope this helps.

Are you getting any error messages on the screen?

We had a problem with our head unit saying " NO SERVICE " a few weeks ago and it ended being the satellite antenna cable up on the roof being rubbed through on the penthouse top. Easy fix.

Just to close this one out.

I called XM (I'm paid for 3 years) and had them reset from their side, no change.

As a last resort I called a local shop who installs Kenwood. I asked them if they could diagnose the problem I was having to see if they could narrow the problem down to the Antenna, XM receiver, the XM/Kenwood interface box, or the head unit. (I didn't want to send in the head unit for service if at all possible.) They said they could do that for $25 so I brought the van to them. They tried resetting the unit first, XM did not work. They then went looking for a spare XM receiver to plug in as a test. They didn't have one that would connect to the interface box so they tried resetting one more time.

It worked!

Either they had a magical finger or it just needed to be reset 6 times. The only difference is that they used a ball point pen to push the reset button and I used a pencil. What ever. Its been working for a week now. Fingers are crossed.

Issue closed for now.
