Warn Winch 3700

I acquired one and I think I'm going to make a trailer hitch mount for it. Just checking if anyone has used one. The max winching power is 3700lbs. not a lot, but better than nothing and being 2wd it could come in handy.

Ron, I've been stuck where a couple of people pushing would get me out but with that small of a winch, I'd definately load it with pull rope and get rid of the cable.

Why is that, is it easier to deal with? Talking about Rope instead of cable.

Yeah the synthetic winch rope is much nicer- lighter, easier to work with, safer. If it gets damaged you can cut and tie it. I don't know that it's necessary on such a light winch, except that you might be more likely to have a failure with a 10K rig vs a 4K winch.

The other thought I had is extra rope of the right capacity would be easier to manage for dual/triple snatch blocking to increase your effective pull. On a winch that small I doubt your spool can hold much length, and length is what you need to effectively run through snatch blocks.

OK, so with 3 snatch blocks you can increase your pull to ~14,000 lb however for every 1' you pull on length L, you only move D about 3".

If your can spool 40' out of your winch rope, you can move 10' in D, but that doesn't take into account W. I would guess with 40' of rope you could move about 4-6' with this setup.

My thought was you could increase your distance to the anchor with the heavy blue rope, which needs to be ~20,000lb or greater here.

Of course you're doing a hitch mount and won't have tie points where I drew D-rings, but I guess my point was that rope in a situation like this can give you more L by extension, plus in a complex system would be easier to work with, not get tangled, etc.

But now I realize you'll probably just straight pull from your hitch to an anchor, since you probably don't have other tie points anyway.

Thanks Jage I have 2 snatch blocks in the shed so i just need to get the Rope. Wait maybe this is the way I can talk the wife into a Alumuness Rear bumper!! honey I had to just incase i had to hook up the winch! Nice

Another thing Ron is that (depending on the manufacture) the rope size vs strength is much smaller in diameter than its cable counterpart. So in most cases you can get more rope on the spool rated at the same strength over the wire rope most winches come with.

She'll be mad when it shows up without D-ring eyes... they're not standard on the rear FYI.

Also, practice in your driveway. Nothing like needing it in the field and not having one quick link or something.

Talk to Thor at Winchline.com Great knowledge and a great resource. Synthetic winchline isn;t cheap, but much nicer, and safer, to work with.
