When did RAM turn to cra... ah, junk?

Got like $90 of RAM mounts for my backup camera install, and I'm sending it back. Total crap. Looks worse than something sand poured in a garage. Only one of the pieces was nice enough that I would put in the van. Shame too- my GPS mount from years ago is so nice.

The rubber has a bunch of flyaways from the mold, which I wouldn't be too concerned about but the shafts look like they've been machined with vice-grips. All the pieces are like this.

The bolt head doesn't fit, so the thing is all cockeyed and doesn't line up. I couldn't get it to move just messing with it. In addition the finish is all chunky (see below), so it's not really worth fixing the bolt.

I'm pretty mad, this is what has been holding my project up and now I need to find another solution.

Re: When did RAM turn to cra... ah, junk?

That's too bad. I just got some RAM gear (remote camera head, rollbar mount), and while the rubber coating does have some of the same "flyaways" that you mention, everything does line up. Of course, now I'll have to go doublecheck...thanks Jage.

I haven't installed any RAM mounts in my SMB, mostly because I have an aversion to drilling holes to mount things in the SMB (so when does that feeling wear off?). I have another RAM mount in my Bronco for my Ham radio. Roll bars are so handy to mount objects.

We have a bunch of ram stuff. Recently got two iPhone holders too.

We have seen zero issues.

Did you buy it thru Ram? From a distributor? Or from elsewhere?

I don't remember the name of the place but I saw what was obviously knock-offs a year or so ago. It was just as you described ... Same item just poor quality. It was thru a third party non-distributor.
