Map is updated with all known shops that were posted in this thread, the mechanic thread, and about 4-5 others. If anyone see's something they wanna add, please respond. I'll keep adding.

To add to the map, need a business name & address.
If there's a specific person, please include.
If there's a specialty, please include.

The layers so far are:
1. mechanics / shops
2. junkyards - am going to go through the pick-n-pull database, and add as many as possible.

What about manufacturer's? if someone has an issue with a manufacturer specific item, sometime the manufacturer can help more than most.
Regards.
Chris

unreng,
Don't believe you have actually been THANKED for adopting this project, so let me be the first to extend my APPRECIATION - Many here can/will benefit from your efforts.
As your site gains traction, it will prove very useful. Will be interesting to see how it evolves after feedback from members. Still think you have a great concept, but should start a seperate thread announcing your creation.

In the spirit of supporting members that have businesses (or offer services) that directly relate to our interests, maybe its an idea to create another "layer" with a different color map pin that could identify these folks. Possibly also include a pop-up window to clarify what contribution they may offer (EX: Specialized parts for the vans, Interior, metal/aluminum fabrication, Electrical, Solar, Suspension, etc), and would it be an idea to have a legend to the left of the Map that we could scroll through to locate specific services (Engine, Interior, Misc, Solar, ...you get the idea) - then once you click on that it could highlight that group on the map???
I for one would prefer to utilize the services of someone that has knowledge of & practical experience with our type Vans.

On that note, I think it prudent asking you to add this members business (no affiliation, but cant dismiss the quality of workmanship):

Again - Great job!

We have been traveling full time for 11 years. Our 2003 SMB is worked hard towing a 29' 1976 Airstream and used to get us into remote areas in the desert and in the mountains. Nine years ago I found a mechanic in Las Vegas who I trust and has done a good job repairing our van. We hand the van over to Gil's Automotive Service in the fall on our way south for the winter and in the spring when we get back on the road to go north.

Fortunately Ford made an exceptionally durable van and the SMB interior and Penthouse have held up much better than I expected. The only part that has consistently been a problem is the Pro Roc 60 front axle. Over the years we have paid almost $20,000 for repair and maintenance of the differentials. Some of the costs are due to the incompetence of the people who claim that they are experts in differential repair.

I have used RV Service Reviews for the past six years. So far the recommendations (good and bad) have been spot on.

There is a poi file of 2,047 Ford Dealers at: Ford Dealers - US (csv) | POI Factory. I loaded this file into my GPS in case I need to find a dealer. It would be nice to have a poi file of unreng's shops & mechanics as well. Two to add are Nichols AutoFab, 1011 Commerce Dr Ste E, Prescott AZ 86305; (928) 708-0300 and AT Overland Equipment, 697 6th Street, Bldg 4, Prescott AZ 86301; (928) 227-0545.

OK.
Added the POI that Jim referenced to a new layer called "Ford Dealers," and the two shops to the first layer. Also added Gil's Auto that SierraHawk referenced to the first layer.

Keep the references coming, but may be a bit delayed in the near future as the van most likely puked the STC fitting on Sunday - crank, no start (from memory...IPR%=85%, ICP<500psi, ICP=0.3v, FICM=48v, FICM sync=1) - so will be focusing a lot on finding a local mechanic to fix everything else that needs fixing on a 6.0L and the associated costs

Custom map (e.g. Google) to show sportsmobile mechanics & shops?

We still updating this to the map?
A John Wood transmission recommendation, installs Johns tranny’s, diesel and general mechanic, works alone, reasonable rates and gets the job done right.
