Military-Type RV stuck in Tonto Creek - kids swept away

Sad news out of Arizona - not sure what type of rig they were in since it's described as a 'military-type' RV but it highlights the dangers of water crossings during storms/flood conditions. Stay Safe!

Definitely sad news. I used to read about similar situations just about every year when I lived in AZ no matter how much the police and press tried to remind everyone. More often than not, drivers would drive around barricades and try to cross the stream beds / arroyos and either get stuck or swept away.

This is going to be a terrible burden for those that did survive.

In photos elsewhere it looked kinda like a Unimog to me, but I'm not sure.

I don't know where the family was from, but those of us who come from wetter places in the eastern US don't always realize how dangerous streams in the West can be. A stream ford that's dry most of the year can become a raging torrent after a thunderstorm. I'd never even seen a road that forded a stream until I moved to SoCal (other than unmarked logging roads.)
