So howbout a Hall of Fame?

I think after 10 pages plus of condolences for Bajasportsmobile the powers that be might agree that we should have one. I'm sure it could fit somewhere, maybe in the 'community' section? I dunno, just thinking we should do something here for Ramsey, and I thought and still think the same for Ultrasport12, another awesome member we lost a few years ago. I'm sure we've lost others who have made this forum what it is in the last few years.

Maybe Jage could be there too, since none of it would've happened without him? We'd like to keep you around a little longer though Jage!

Maybe it could just be a thread started about each of them where we could post pics, quotes, and share stories?

Great idea on so many levels.

Of course, for those that knew any of the "departed greats," it honors their contributions, personalities, and being. And could be a place to come back to over the years and post memories and heartfelt love for those who have pulled up their wheel chocks and rolled on. A lost presence is still felt strong around a campfire where the stories stay alive.

And for those who come/came to this SMB party too late to know those people in "real time," it would provide context and history to understanding the roots and spirit of the community. Easy answers to the obvious question of "Who do we have to thank for all this awesomeness?"

And perhaps it could even serve, as an added benefit, to somehow keep the collected posts and knowledge of the Hall-of-Famer's "still in play".....still visible....and perhaps somehow highlighted and annotated by the community as time goes by. I don't know.

But it's clear --- since so much of what they've written is still just as relevant and helpful/inspiring now as it was the day they posted it. Easily it can (and should!!) continue to inform (and inspire....and make chuckle...) countless future visitors to the site.

The beauty of the written word....people really DO live on, as long as what they said/wrote keeps being read.

Good idea. Can't add anything to what's already been written; I never met the man, but I can see from his posts that Ramsey was extremely knowledgeable and added a great deal to the discussions here. I was looking forward to meeting him at Agile for some questions and possible work to be done. A Hall of Fame section to recognize contributions such as his would be an ultimate form of peer review and appropriate.

Great idea Eric. This is something that should be done. Its both cool and a bit haunting to see some of Ramsey's posts still showing on the first page of some active threads, but after a while that won't be the case anymore. He should have a spot that keeps him somewhere at the forefront somehow.

One week - still reeling but slowly getting better. Giuliana arrives tomorrow so will get hear some Ramsey and Jeff (artictraveler) stories! A bottle of wine will certainly disappear. He is still around..... May have to
whip up some Margs.

Eric, I agree, the Hall of Fame/Remembrance idea is spot on. Perhaps the thread title with the persons name and all of the persons posts listed. Sound bites of a sort.

For those of you who followed or met Giuliana Fea, amazing Italian women who travels the world overlanding -

We were very concerned about her since the last message a couple of years ago was she was heading back to Italy (she must be near 80 yrs old now). We had first met her in Monument Valley, then happened across each again a couple of days later. She stayed with us as she came through San Francisco, and we coordinated a meet up in Mammoth Lakes. It is now harder to find info about her but if you search including Italian sites and use a translate app, you can read about her extensive multi continent journeys.

I emailed her yesterday and she responded that she is still out there traveling! Hall of Famer for sure!!

Her message:

“Hi Ray and Jennifer.
This winter I have been in Marocco. Coming back i did stop in Spain in a camping near Altea at the White Coast ad I did stay there. I am waiting better conditions before to go home. In the building where I leave in Torino there are problems. All my family is ok.
Be safe
Giuliana
