Re: 2013 E350 New Build

I'm starting to think that is what I should have done in the first place. It's all tied up in the Ford "ship through" thing now. I don't think there's much I can do, but wait. It's my fault, was just trying to save $3-4K on the 4WD.

Re: 2013 E350 New Build

When I ordered my van in '04 I ordered a Quigley 4x4. It sat so long waiting for Quigley to get to it that I canceled the 4x4. I had to pay $300 for Quigley to ship it to SMB North and do the SMB conversion. We met our schedule and had the 4x4 done after our first trip to Alaska.

Re: 2013 E350 New Build

Hey Mike, I might be doing the same thing, except I would be flying out to Baltimore on Wednesday to pick it up and drive it to SMB West. It seems there is no communication from them and you get different stories from everyone there. I just sent them back an e-mail that I received from them Aug 16th telling me that it was scheduled in 3 weeks and it would be done Sept. 24th. Now I'm being told October 23rd.

Our first camper van had naugahyde glued right onto the plywood walls. The converter said it was difficult to do because it had to be put on perfectly flat with no wrinkles. Our current van has naugahyde over foam. It is similar to the standard interior but naugahyde instead of fabric. We like it because the naugahyde can just be wiped down or even scrubbed, where the fabric absorbs dust which is difficult to get out.

Re: 2013 E350 New Build

After some pressure on Quigley from myself and the sales manager at the Ford dealership, they finally started on my van today. It is supposed to be done by next Wednesday. ;-);-) FINALLY!
I have a question regarding wheels. I understand that the wheels Quigley puts on the conversion have a 5.75" backspace. I can't find a wheel that I like with that backspace. I found some Mickey Thompson 17x9 with a 5.00" backspace. I'm planning on running 285 70 17's on it. Will this wheel work ok? Am I thinking right that the Mickey Thompson will just stick out past the side of the van and extra 3/4"? I have Bushwacker fender flares to put on also.

Re: 2013 E350 New Build

Santa Clause brought me a big package today. I ordered custom aluminum boxes/cabinets for the van from Highway Products. I still have no van so I put a 6' x 10' piece of cardboard on the shop floor so I could set them on and get a feel for the room I will have. Very happy with them. The quality and craftsmanship are amazing.

The 2 drawer unit was built to store all my camera gear and it will sit right behind the drivers seat. The smaller ones toward the back will be built up about 10" off the floor on a platform to clear the wheel wells.

Re: 2013 E350 New Build

These are two 36" long boxes on the drivers side that my bed is going to be built on top of with a sliding unit so it will be 36" wide when pulled out.

Two 24" on the passenger side.

Re: 2013 E350 New Build

Gotta love the enthusiasm of guys like you and BoyWonder, who are starting their builds without even owning a van. That should be inspiring to everyone who owns a van and is hesitating on starting the build out on their dream van.

Re: 2013 E350 New Build

As you continue to collect the components of the build just remember to leave room in your garage for the van when it arrives.

Great visioning.
