DOT inspections only apply if the vehicle seat more than 15, which is probably why they are converting vans instead of buses.
I'd hope so too but anything's possible right?

I do have to wonder if such a businesses insurance company wouldn't have something to say about the condition of or road worthiness of vehicles it insures? That being the case self-modified vehicles not meeting the FMVSS might be impossible to insure. Hauling people for hire smacks of huge lawsuits should injuries due lack of adequate protection result during an excursion.

Still scary what shares the road with us huh?

Easy workaround. Just change the name of the company, get a new policy, and that buys time before the next inspection.

On that note: BEWARE OF WHITE BUSES! These are buses which have magnetic signs, often running cheap "special" routes with no regular time table. They have magnetic signs to make it easier to operate under another name. Some switch every year or more.

Re: 4x4 Convertible Van?

Part of my van research included about 6 months of serious emails between myself and the owner of the now defunct "USA 6x6". I had envisioned something along the lines of what you will see by them in the below video but with a full length 24" bubble top for standing headroom with about 14 feet of usable floor behind the cab! . . and nearly unstoppable

I wish they were still around as it is only a matter of a couple years and my wife and i will be ready for Van 2.0.
