Yeah I just have the FF sterling 10.5 just bolted on without the perches welded until I get the new driveshafts and set the angles. Need to flip the drivers side shock mount as well.

Front end is almost done except hooking up the drag link, and panhard bar. Oh and shocks, but I still haven't received my shocks yet from UJOR.

Biggest problem is that the pitman arm won't come off the steering box. I already broke the heavy duty puller tool trying to use it. May just need a new box and arm if I can't get them apart without damaging the box. Going to work on that later today.

Somewhere here there's a thread with various options on removing the pitman arm.. you're not the first to fight with it..

Read something about cutting slots in it, not quite all the way through and putting a puller on it with heat and a hammer. Tried all of that without the slots. Will try cutting some when my new puller gets here

To remove stubborn Pitman arms you need this OTC 6497 puller with some grade 8 hardware. It hasnt let me down yet.

Heat and a hammer is what it took on mine. Big hammer. I tightened the (rented) puller down until I thought I was going to break it, then heated the nut with a propane torch, then started smacking the sides of the arm. Popped off on the 4th or 5th hit.

I had an acetylene torch going on it with the puller and banging on it with a hammer, and then when I tighten the puller, it sheared off the little tabs the hook under the arm.

Damn... that's a tough one. Too much heat and you'll cook the seal on the steering shaft.


New steering box is looking pretty good right now. One other reason to maybe get a new steering box... how big are the bolts in the current steering box? If they're not the large bolts (14mm), you'll need to upgrade. Some vans came with super small bolts...those are inadequate.

I just did this upgrade for a '99 van with my kit on it. I can dig up the part number of the correct box if you need it.

I think they are the big bolts. Seems like they were just the right size for the holes in the track bar bracket
